Loveable Elephants

BOOKS: We checked out Elmer by David Mckee at the library this week, and we just adored it. This silly, multi-colored elephant is such a fun character, and it's great to see how his pals love him for his uniqueness. We're also very fond of Oliver by Syd Hoff. Oliver is another elephant who doesn't quite fit in, but everyone loves him for his super personality.

ACTIVITY: Inspired by Elmer, we decided to have some fun decorating elephants in a colorful fashion. First I just cut circles out of construction paper for the elephants heads. I cut out the trunks, and then I cut a heart shape and cut it in half for the ears. I then cut smaller circles from the scrap paper for eyes. My three-year-old glued them all together. And then my one-year-old and his brother colored them as they wished. They were very happy with the outcome! Cute, happy, colorful elephants.
