Sand Art

BOOKS: We have read a variety of beach-themed books this summer, and we're very much into the sun and sand! One book that both boys have enjoyed is Sea, Sand, and Me! by Patricia Hubbell, which describes a very lovely beach day for a little girl and her friend. A few titles that my three-year-old has liked are Mrs. Armitage and the Big Wave by Quentin Blake, The Boy on the Beach by Niki Daly, and The Sandcastle Contest by Robert Munsch.
ACTIVITY: Sand Pictures
When the boys wanted to do some painting the other day, and I just didn't feel like making a mess, we went out back to our sand table and made some easy pictures.

- First I placed a sheet of construction paper onto a cookie sheet.
- Next, the boys took a bottle of glue and squeezed out a "drawing" onto the construction paper.- Then, they used shovels to sprinkle sand all over the paper. And viola, when they shook off the excess sand, their glue was covered in sand.- We set the out to dry and harden in the sun.
They were so pleased with the process of making these pictures, that they each did about 3 of them.
